Empowering Children Through Knowledge and Awareness. At Sarvodaya Suwasetha Leela Jayasekera Child Development Centre, we conducted an essential Child Safety Awareness Training titled “My Body, My Rules,” led by Ms. Risini Hettiarachchi. She holds a City and Guilds Level 3 IVQ Advanced Diploma in Teaching, Training, and Assessing Learning and currently serves as a Senior Account Manager at Dialog Axiata.


The program aims to equip children with the knowledge and confidence to protect themselves, understand personal boundaries, and recognize unsafe situations.


Topics Covered


  • Basic Body Awareness - Understanding the names of body parts, with a focus on private areas.

  • Understanding Personal Space - Teaching the importance of setting and respecting personal boundaries.

  • Good Touch vs. Bad Touch - Differentiating positive gestures from unsafe touch.

  • Safety Rules - Clear guidelines, such as "No one should touch your private parts except to keep you clean and healthy."

  • Trusted Adults - Identifying safe adults to turn to when feeling uncomfortable or unsafe.

  • Saying 'No' with Confidence - Teaching children how to assert their rights and refuse unwanted touches.


Activities


  • Role-Playing - Practicing responses to uncomfortable situations and how to seek help.

  • Story Time - Engaging, age-appropriate books to reinforce safety messages.

  • Songs and Games - Making learning fun while helping children remember safety rules.
